'The past inspires the present for the future' (Ch. Camilleri)

The public and historically important St George's Square in Malta's capital Valletta will be the venue for a Dance-Performance by the German Choreographer Irina Pauls.

Contemporary dancers will perform to music by the Maltese composer Charles Camilleri (1931-2009) transformed through compositions by Matthias Engelke. In his music Camillieri amalgamated the element of folk song with that of the avant-garde. He travelled extensively, but always came back to his Maltese roots.

Incentive for the performance in the public space are the water fountains which appear on St George's  Square in Valletta every hour, accompanied by a movement from Charles Camilleri's „Malta-Suite“.

Irina Paul's choreography tells about people and their different attitudes towards life. People animate streets and squares and in spite of their differences they are searching for forms of communication. They disappear and reappear in other positions, searching for viewing points and meeting each other again. Combined with Mathias Engelke's compositions and Ricarda Knödler's costumes an atmosphere of communication and dreams is created on St. George's Square. The spectators will become part of the action.

The performance will take place as a cooperation of German-based dancers and dancers living on Malta.
